The Superintendent of the Canton Public School District asked Doty to develop a mentorship program for girls and boys in the school system. This program, I!

They include the Mayor, business leaders, churches and their members and community leaders. Doty has received many awards from local and state organizations for her contributions to the community. Doty is dedicated to her native Mississippi and serves on many local Boards of nonprofit organizations, chairing numerous committees and events.

She was nominated by the President of the United States and confirmed by the U. Congress to serve on this Board. She also served as Chairman of the International Membership Committee. Let everyone see that you are unselfish and considerate in all you do. Remember that the Lord is coming soon.

His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus. Sims-Doty was determined not to leave school until she earned enough degrees to make a good living. She received her bachelors and master's degree in sociology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a doctorate in early childhood education from Jackson State University in Her sister Shirley, the first in her family to become a member of AKA, encouraged Sims-Doty to become a member in Howard University students founded the organization in , making it the first African American Greek-lettered sorority in the United States.

As AKA's southeastern regional director, Sims-Doty, 57, lives in Jackson but spends most of her time traveling throughout the country encouraging sorority members to get involved in service. She oversees 53 graduate and 48 undergraduate chapters in Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi. She was responsible for organizing the sorority's 78th southeastern regional conference last month, which brought 2, AKA members to Jackson.

The money from the program is allocated to various communities. In Jackson, for example, Walton Elementary School received funding from the sorority for an after-school reading program for children. When Sims-Doty does motivational speeches and speaks at various conferences she focuses on the principles she lives by: "Seek divine purpose, have self-esteem, excel, have a heart to serve others, educate yourself and remain humble. Sims-Doty attributes her commitment to serve others in her community to her Christian faith.

I feel in order to be a great leader, you have to serve first. How do you know how to lead those who serve, if you haven't done it? Since I did my share of it, I'm sure that the statement "holding and picking cotton" is meant to be "hoeing and picking cotton".
